PhD Study on the University of Otago, Christchurch campus

The University of Otago, Christchurch campus is the focal point of leading edge health research for the Canterbury region, producing research of international calibre. In addition to the 200 medical students undertaking the clinical years of their medical education, the School currently has over 500 postgraduate students enrolled in University study, including 60 PhD students.

Current reseach being undertaken by PhD students in Christchurch

The School has recently upgraded its laboratories to a high standard and feedback from doctoral students has been extremely positive about this study environment.

Our PhD supervisors are committed to supporting their students to produce research of an extremely high standard. Conference presentations and publications in refereed journals are all part of the process and help to prepare PhD candidates for career development once their doctorate is awarded.

The University's Christchurch campus has a reputation for providing excellent support for students in terms of travel to attend conferences and expenses associated with their project.

The University of Otago offers 10 prestigious scholarships ($25,000 plus fees per annum) and 50 PhD scholarships ($20,000 plus fees per annum) each year to high performing students. In addition, there are a range of other sponsored scholarships available.
