PSME 423 - Child and Family Mental Health

EligibilityIt is a requirement that those considering the paper are working to a relevant extent with children or adolescents and their families. ContentThis paper aims to provide a broad introduction to the assessment, treatment and management of the common child behaviour and psychiatric problems. The content will cover key developmental issues (relevance of attachment, temperament, cognitive development, brain damage, adverse experiences and family environment) and include the following disorders: early developmental disorders, disruptive behaviour disorders including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and anxiety disorders relevant to children. There will also be a focus on behaviour therapy, parent training and family therapy. This paper can be taken as part of a Postgraduate Certificate in Health Sciences (Child and Adolescent Mental Health) in conjunction with PSME 420: Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. This course may also be taken as part of the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences (Mental Health) or Master of Health Sciences (Mental Health). Teaching ArrangementsTo be decided.
