Project - Introduction
The Canterbury Suicide Project
- A research study of suicidal behaviour in people of all ages
- Established in 1991
- Located in the Department of Psychological Medicine
- Part of the University of Otago, Christchurch
Major research interests include:
- Suicidal behaviours (suicidal ideation, suicide attempts and completed
suicide)
- Youth suicide
(< 25 years)
- Suicide in adults (ages 25-55)
- Suicide in older adults (ages 55 and older)
- Risk and protective factors in suicidal behaviour
- Pathways to suicidal behaviour
- Suicide prevention
- The impact of bereavement by suicide on close family members
- Longitudinal studies of people who have made suicide attempts
- National suicide prevention strategies
- Restriction of access to methods of suicide
- Suicide in Canterbury, New Zealand

The Canterbury
Suicide Project is not a crisis or counselling service and
we must refer you on.
