Research

Research is a prominent and proud component of the University of Otago, Christchurch (UOC) activities. The UOC hosts major, internationally-recognised research projects conducted by senior scientists and mentored juniors. The UOC is regularly awarded external research grants, for biomedical, clinical and public health research. It is the focal point of leading-edge health research for the Canterbury region. That environment is further enhanced by collaboration with international researchers and with colleagues from other research institutions in New Zealand.

The health research campus in Christchurch is served by a Research Office based on the 5th Floor of the University of Otago, Christchurch. This is a shared facility funded by the University of Otago, Christchurch and the Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB). It provides open access service for anyone involved in health research working within these organisations. For all staff, it is compulsory to submit grant applications through the Research Office.

The Research Manager, Research Manager-Maori, Research Advisors and Research Administrator are available to provide advice on all aspects of the conduct of research in Canterbury. A major focus of the Research Office is the dissemination of research grant funding information and advice to applicants on eligibility criteria and budgeting. Provided grant applications are received by the advertised date, the Research Office will take responsibility for the processing, checking and photocopying of grant applications and ensuring that they are couriered to the appropriate destination in a timely fashion. These services are provided free of charge to staff.

UOC and CDHB staff who wish to receive research information by email should send an email to: research.uoc@otago.ac.nz with the subject heading "SUBSCRIBE". No message is necessary. (To unsubscribe, send an email to: research.uoc@otago.ac.nz with the subject heading "UNSUBSCRIBE")
