The Alcohol Advisory Council of New Zealand (ALAC)
ALAC's primary objective is to promote moderation in the use of alcohol and to develop and promote strategies that will reduce alcohol related problems for the nation. This site contains information on ALAC health promotion initiatives, research and travel grants and has a database of New Zealand research related to alcohol and to a lesser extent other drugs. There are also a number of valuable documents which may be downloaded from the site.

Alcohol Drug Association New Zealand (ADANZ))
ADANZ is a community organisation with a statement of purpose to "challenging thinking and stimulating action on alcohol and drug issues". The site contains information on ADANZ's main activities - the Alcohol Helpline and Directory of Services.

Alcohol & Public Health Research Unit (APHRU)
APHRU's aim is to "enhances knowledge about public health issues and is responsive to the health promotion needs". This site contains information on current issues. projects and past publications from APHRU. While the focus is on alcohol APHRU has also carried out some important work on cannabis.

Health Research Council (HRC)
The major government-funded agency responsible for purchasing and co-ordinating health research and fostering the health research workforce in Aotearoa New Zealand. This site provides information on currently funded projects, upcoming grant rounds, research portfolios, priority areas and scholarships.

National Drug Policy Website
This site aims to promote and communicate work being undertaken under the National Drug Policy and contains information and links to important documents on a wide range of drug issues.

New Zealand Drug Foundation (NZDF)
The Foundation’s objective is minimising (licit and illicit) drug related harm. The site hosts an number of forums on current drug related issues and maintains an excellent, up-to-date record of media page listing recent drug-related items.

New Zealand Health Information Service (NZHIS)
NZHIS is a group within the Ministry of Health responsible for the collection and dissemination of health-related data.

Medsafe
Medsafe is the New Zealand Medicines and Medical Devices Safety Authority. It is a business unit of the Ministry of Health and is the authority responsible for the regulation of therapeutic products in New Zealand through the administration of the Medicines Act 1981 and Regulations 1984, and parts of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975 and Regulations 1977. The site provides information for professionals and consumers.

The Drug and Alcohol Practitioners' Association of Aotearoa-New Zealand (DAPAANZ)
The Drug and Alcohol Practitioners' Association of Aotearoa-New Zealand is a society incorporated in 2003 to represent the professional interests of its members: the practitioners and clinicians working in addiction treatment.

Australian Drug Information Network
(ADIN)
Provides a central point of access to quality Internet-based alcohol and drug information provided by prominent organisations in Australia and internationally and is able to search hundreds of sites simultaneously.

Conference & Meeting Calendar (University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey)
A comprehensive compilation of educational and scientific meetings for mental health professionals. Conferences and meetings may be viewed by location, date or sponsor.

Drug Policy Alliance
(formerly The Lindesmith Center - Drug Policy Foundation)
A United States drug policy organization working to broaden and better inform the public debate on drug policy and related issues. The guiding principle of the center is harm reduction, an alternative approach to drug policy and treatment that focuses on minimizing the adverse effects of both drug use and drug prohibition. The site contains a wide range of documents and other resources.

National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC)
An Australian research centre which has as it's aim to increase the effectiveness of treatment for drug and alcohol problems in Australia through it's research activities.

SAMHSA
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. A wide range of useful information including the (US) National Household Survey of drug use results

The Virtual Clearinghouse on Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs
A collaborative effort of a number of organizations having an interest in disseminating high quality information about the nature, extent and consequences of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use. The scope of this information encompasses prevention, treatment, research, enforcement, and development of policy.

Alcoholinfo (Australian/NSW Government)
This website outlines the Australian/NSW Government policies on alcohol issues and includes links to other sites with information on alcohol advertising, responsible supply and consumption of alcohol and the role of parents, families, industry and the broader community in reducing alcohol abuse.

Druginfo (Australian/NSW Government)
Outlines Australian/NSW Government policy on drug abuse and includes links to fact sheets on illicit drugs, information on legal issues and information on the role of parents, families and the broader community in reducing drug abuse.

The Australasian Professional Society on Alcohol and Other Drugs (APSAD)
APSAD is dedicated to raising awareness about the problems related to the use of alcohol and other drugs and to promoting improved standars in clinical practice and in research into this and allied subjects
