Undergraduate Teaching

Undergraduate teaching of Pathology involves the 4th, 5th and 6th years the MB ChB course. Pathology is involved in providing an informal consultative service that allows students to follow the laboratory investigation of their patients, as well as offering more formally structured tutorials and some lectures. The trend is towards more use of our scientists and technical personnel encourage research-based teaching.

An important teaching resource is the Denis Stewart Museum, which houses a comprehensive collection of anatomical pathology specimens and slides. The Christchurch hospital mortuary, is another valuable Departmental teaching resource. The integrated clinical science course for 4th year students has in recent years been superceded by a less formal case-based approach. Teaching of the Anatomic Pathology tutorials for 4th year students were changed from a didactic approach to case-based, small-group tutorials that incorporate Radiology.
