Staff and students are encouraged to make suggestions for purchase and
are asked for input on titles that are being considered for purchase.
At the end of each calendar year academic staff are asked to review
the titles held in Student Reserve collection in their teaching areas.
The library sends out lists of titles currently held on Student Reserve
to all course convenors for this purpose.
For branch and departmental collections, purchases are related to the
needs of these groups and purchasing decisions are made by library committees
and/or by department staff.
Wish to suggest purchase of
an item for the collection?
All members are welcome to suggest books and
journals for purchase by the library. Contact
library acquisitions staff for further information
or for information
about titles which might be available and in print email: bookscml.uoc@otago.ac.nz
Library acquisitions staff can also provide access to Blackwells Collection
Manager which can help you locate titles and alert you to new titles in your
subject area. See the page http://www.uoc.otago.ac.nz/departments/library/booksuggest.htm for
further information.
Who may use the collections?
Full Reading and personal members of Canterbury Medical Library may use the
central library collection. Those who are not members of the library have access
to Canterbury Medical Library collections through the New Zealand Library Interloan
Scheme. Most public and tertiary institution libraries belong to the scheme
and have access to the Te Puna shared national online catalogue. Non-members
wishing to borrow items should approach the public or tertiary institution
library to which they belong and request items by subject or title.
How can I find what books have been published on
a specific subject?
One very useful source of information is
Blackwell's Collection
Manager, which is a database that collects new title information from
publishers. You can search Collection Manager by subject, title, and
author.
