Our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. 27 April 2009 Information about human swine influenza or swine flu, is reported on a variety of health websites. The New Zealand, Ministry of Health website: http://www.moh.govt.nz/moh.nsf/indexmh/mexican-swine-influenza-update-270409 provides a number of links to updates, alerts and travel advice. Internationally, the World Health Organisation is coordinating the global response to human cases of swine influenza A (H1N1) and monitoring the corresponding threat of an influenza pandemic. There are links on their website http://www.who.int/en/ to information about swine influenza, the Director General's Statement on swine influenza and other updates. The HealthMap: Global Disease Alert Map http://www.healthmap.org/en presents international information in a particularly visual way, by drawing on very current information and alerts. Additional information also appears on this webpage under the heading 'Latest alerts' and 'Alerts by Country'. In the US, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or CDC provides a considerable amount of information on this issue at: http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/investigation.htm From NYC Health Dept - Chart: steps required to confirm suspected cases of swine flu http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/pr2009/pr015-09.shtml If you are interested in the view from overseas - European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control http://ecdc.europa.eu/ 28 January 2009 Science Direct journals now online only From January 2009 Canterbury Medical Library will no longer receive paper copies of 59 journals on the Science Direct platform. The only Science Direct journal to be retained in paper format will be the Lancet which is one of the most used titles in both paper and electronic formats. List of titles moving to online only format. Anyone with any concerns about this policy should contact Margaret Walker, Health Sciences Librarian, Canterbury Medical Library (ext 80505, email: marg.walker@otago.ac.nz). Usage of the paper copies of these journals has dropped dramatically over the past year so the cost of processing, maintaining and storing the paper copies cannot not be justified. The library committee hopes that the funding saved may be allocated to the purchase of additional journal subscriptions. Do you need some help with the online journals? Come to one of our ‘Drop-in sessions’ during 2009. Just turn up, there is no need to register. If a different time would suit you better, contact us on Ext 80504 to arrange an individual session - See session times 26 May 2008 Wiley InterScience Outages Wiley InterScience will be unavailable on Thursday the 29th of May 2008, from 8.00pm, for around an hour. This is to allow Wileys to undertake urgent site maintenance. Please note that The Cochrane Library is one of the databases that will be unavailable during this time. 21 February 2008 Commentary On Sentinel & Serious Events Reported By District Health Boards The 2006/07 report on the sentinel and serious events that have been reported by District Health Boards is available online and downloaded print copies are available in the Canterbury Medical Library Loan and Reference collections (shelved at WX 153 C734 2008). to it from Canterbury Medical Library's database page: Click on the link to OVID; once you get into the list of OVID databases, you will see a link to 'Try OvidSP!', near the top of the page. Click on this, choose your database, and start your search. You will notice that you will go straight to the 'Ovid Syntax' search option; this works as OVID currently does. You might also like to try the 'Basic Search' option, where you can type in short statements or questions about what you need to know. 17 December 2007 CINAHL is Moving to EBSCOhost From the 1st of January 2008, CINAHL, the nursing and allied health database, will be available only from the EBSCOhost databases.
