Headaches Anxiety about missing serious pathology and the difficulty of managing some of the benign but chronic types of headache can make this a challenging topic. Back by popular demand, neurologist Deborah Mason will discuss a safe and rational approach. Recognising and managing psychiatric problems during and after pregnancy Consultant psychiatrist, Sue Luty works at the Department of Psychological Medicine, University of Otago Christchurch, and the Mothers and Babies Perinatal Service. She has a strong interest in mood disorders, interpersonal functioning, psychotherapy, perinatal psychiatry and infant mental health. Respiratory problems part one. Chest malignancies Roland Meyer, community respiratory physician, will review a range of common chest malignancies including lung cancer, mesothelioma and the assessment of pulmonary nodules. Menstrual problems John Short, gynaecologist, will cover the investigation and management of menorrhagia, dysmenorrhoea, postmenopausal bleeding and irregular periods in this session. Making sense of neurological symptoms of uncertain
significance Deborah Mason will discuss a practical approach to the assessment of patients presenting with symptoms that you think are benign but worry could herald something more serious. Cardiac Arrhythmias Paul Bridgman, cardiologist, will discuss the assessment and management of arrythmias. This session will include a review of the management of atrial fibrillation. Investigation of Haematuria Haematuria is a common finding with a wide differential diagnosis. Urologist, Frank Kueppers will discuss its investigation. Fracture Management in General Practice Steve, a consultant orthopaedic surgeon, will discuss the diagnosis and management of a range of fractures commonly seen and treated in primary care.
